On Thursday January 16, 2025, CUPE President Tammy Murphy was on the Jill Bennett Show on CKNW to talk about the current investigation from the office of the Ombudsman on the act that students in our schools are being left behind due to underfunding to our schools and lack of staff in our schools. Tammy spoke on how inclusion looks different in each school and each classroom but it really comes down to the lack of staff and the lack of overall funding.
On Dec 16, 2024, CUPE728 President Tammy Murphy, had a press conference with the Surrey Teacher Association and the Surrey District Parent Advisory Council to discuss their joint concerns with the current reality of ‘inclusive education’ in Surrey’s public schools. Surrey District Parent Advisory Council stood with CUPE Surrey Schools and Surrey Teachers’ Association and are united in our concern about critical gaps in learning supports in Surrey schools. We are calling on all levels of government to address these urgent issues for students with disabilities and students with diverse abilities. Inclusion underfunded affects everyone – not just those students who need and deserve the support – but also their peers, their teachers and support workers.Tammy continued her discussions through the day and was on the Jill Bennett Show on CKNW to further the discussion on the concerns with our public schools. Below, you will find the videos and radio interview.
