Spring Break

For those 728 members that will be off during Spring Break, have a wonderful time. This is a break that is well deserved! In our busy lives, it may be hard to take time to relax and re-charge.  Check down below for suggestions.

To relax on spring break, focus on disconnecting from stress, engaging in enjoyable activities, and prioritizing self-careThis could involve spending time in nature, connecting with loved ones, trying new hobbies, or simply catching up on sleep and relaxation.

Here’s a more detailed breakdown:

  • Limit screen time:
Step away from social media, emails, and other digital distractions to truly relax and be present.
  • Prioritize sleep:
Catch up on sleep and establish good sleep hygiene to feel refreshed and energized.

  • Reconnect with loved ones: Use the time to catch up with family and friends you haven’t seen recently.

Family Day – Schools Closed

History on Family Day:

In 2012, a two-week consultation process was held in order to determine if British Columbians preferred the holiday to fall on the second or third Monday in February. On May 28, 2012, it was announced that Family Day would be observed on the second Monday in February each year, starting February 11, 2013. As this did not coincide with Presidents Day, it also provided two consecutive long weekends for tourism, particularly at BC’s many ski resorts.

On February 9, 2018, the Government of British Columbia announced that Family Day would be moved to the 3rd Monday in February in 2019, to align their holiday with the rest of those provinces who observe it on that Monday.

Remembrance Day

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
        In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
        In Flanders fields.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Witness the Truth, Change the Future

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) calls to action are meant to:

“Meaningfully and permanently dismantle the systemic racism that leads to worse health outcomes, premature death, and limited economic opportunities. Vastly improve life for Indigenous Peoples in Canada. Ensure, through thorough and honest education, that this never happens again”.

Reconciliation is unique for everyone.
What reconciliation means is as unique as each person who envisions it. Heal and learn to make your contribution to truth and reconciliation. It is a day to call upon all of those who can effect change to take action to advance reconciliation in Canada. Every one of us can effect change. We seek healing to contribute to reconciliation in a good way that honours our unique skills, experience, and vision for wholeness.

With ongoing national dialogue, we walk together toward a safe space where true collaboration, partnership, and reconciliation can happen.
