Bus Driver Appreciation Day

We have amazing Bus Drivers! February 22nd is Bus Driver Appreciation day with CUPE728 and Surrey Schools. We thank all our drivers today and everyday for their dedication in the safety of the students, staff and our community.

 

National Braille Day

Did you know that CUPE728 has members that work with students and staff that require the use of Braille?  February 21 is World Braille Day, celebrated since 2019, is observed to raise awareness of the importance of Braille as a means of communication in the full realization of the human rights for blind and partially sighted people. We thank all our CUPE728 members that work with both staff and students that use Braille.

What is Braille?

Braille is a tactile representation of alphabetic and numerical symbols using six dots to represent each letter and number, and even musical, mathematical and scientific symbols. Braille (named after its inventor in 19th century France, Louis Braille) is used by blind and partially sighted people to read the same books and periodicals as those printed in a visual font.
Braille is essential in the context of education, freedom of expression and opinion, as well as social inclusion, as reflected in article 2 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Culinary Assistant Recognition Day

CUPE728 has some amazing Culinary Assistants (Formally: Cafeteria Assistant I & II)! They have such an important role in our high schools. They help in training students enrolled in food handling and preparation courses, taking care of the kitchen facilities, preparation of food served in the cafeterias and much, much more. On January 16, we recognize all their hard work and dedication to their role.

Caretaker Unit Meeting
