Committee Reports

Women’s Committee – Nov 2017

The first Women’s Committee meeting was on Oct 30.  Debra was elected Chair of the committee and Karen was elected Co-Chair and Theresa was elected as our committee’s Recording Secretary.  Some of the events we will focus on in the near future are laying a wreath for Remembrance Day and focusing on helping families in need for the Christmas season.  In January 2018 we are hoping to set up a large dinner to help feed individuals in need and will be looking for volunteers for that.

We are still looking for the following new/gently used items to be donated to our Women’s Committee: (new) socks, blankets, purses, (new) toiletries, jackets, mitts, toques, hats.  Please bring them to the Union Office or to the GMs or Unit Meetings

In Solidarity, Marcey C

Sept 2017 – we are still looking for donation of good quality used purses and NEW toiletries.  Please drop them off at the Union Office or you can bring them to any CUPE 728 event (ex. EA Unit Meeting, General Membership Meetings, etc.)

On April 30 2017 the Women’s Committee put on a dinner for a women’s shelter in Surrey.  This dinner was attended by many women and their children.  We were able to provide women with purses filled with items the use on a daily basis.  The women were very grateful for the committee.  We want to send a big thank you to the volunteers that helped out at the dinner and for the members that donated purses

January 18, 2017 – Stay tuned for update on rescheduling Women Breaking Barriers Workshop.  The family who received the Christmas hamper basket was very thankful and grateful, thank you to Local 728 for their support.

February 15, 2017 – International Women’s Day is Saturday March 4 at Queen Elizabeth Secondary School.  Women’s Committee members are asking for volunteers.  Please see Shannon for more information.  There is a possibility of a dinner to be hosted in April.  More information to be provided at a later date.  Members are requested to donate good/used purses to be filled with new toiletries, chocolates, etc and will be handed out at a hosted dinner.
