The School Board Trustees Action Committee shall consist of not less than three (3) members. The duties of this Committee shall be to monitor the local actions and opinions of the Surrey School Board Trustees. All reports and proposals of this Committee shall be made available to the members for information at the next general membership meeting, following presentation to the Executive. Also, the reports and proposals are to be published in the monthly Chronicle that precedes the meeting the reports and proposals are tabled at.

February 15, 2017 – There was a meeting in January. At this meeting there were two issues that were brought forward from the delegation and a report from Jordan Tinney on how the funds distribution based from the BCTF ruling. Parents put forward a proposal for more Punjabi as a second language classes in elementary schools. The Surrey School Coalition made a proposal asking for 2 new courses. Pastry Making and Authentic Coaching. With these two careers growing in the industry they feel that it should reflect in learning. They spoke on overcrowding in schools. 71,000 students with 10 in portables. $4 million dollars being spent on portables, there must be a better way. Need to look at affordable housing and take into account for those that live an work in Surrey for expansion They asked for $175 million from the government before the Supreme Court ruling. They also wanted to have the control of where the funding goes. “Give and let distribute”. Jordan Tinney provided a slide power point which shows the routes on how the funds from the Supreme Court ruling will need to take account. It was very informative. We are just waiting to have the minutes approved at the next meeting to share with our members.
