Serves Surrey, but some specialized groups are available to people from outside the Surrey catchment area; they can be referred through their local mental health offices. Offers individual counselling for adults and children. Counselling is provided by supervised students in the Masters of Counselling Psychology program at Trinity Western University. Client appropriateness is determined by a phone interview with an intake worker. Three offices are located in Langley (TWU campus, and Nicomekl Elementary School) and Abbotsford (Abbotsford Secondary School). Fees are $20/session for a 50-minute session; fees may be waived in special cases. Sessions are available from the end of September to mid-April, from 1 pm to 9 pm Mondays and Wednesdays. INFORMATION FOR REFERRING PROFESSIONALS
The SFU Surrey Counselling Centre is a joint undertaking of the Counselling Psychology
Program in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University and the Surrey School District.
The Centre provides graduate level training for students in counselling psychology by providing
free counselling services to youth (14 years+) and adults in the Surrey community. All
counselling is provided by SFU students who are completing graduate degrees in counselling
psychology. Counsellor trainees are supervised by qualified professionals.
Whom We Serve
Students and parents of students in the Surrey School District, other individuals from Surrey and
surrounding communities, as space allows.

We provide free individual counselling for youth (14+) and adults.

Referrals can be made by calling 604.587.7320 and leaving a message. Clients may also self-refer
by calling this number.
When We’re Open
The Centre is open by appointment only from September through April on Tuesday and
Wednesday evenings.

Supervision of Counsellor-Trainees
Student-counsellors are supervised by qualified instructors from their university graduate
program. Because the Centre is a training unit, student-counsellors are required to record each
session and/or be viewed through a monitor by their university supervisor. This ensures that each
client receives the best possible service based on feedback from an experienced supervisor. This
supervision process is the standard training method in high-quality, ethically aware counsellor
education programs.
Clients must:
• Be ok with seeing graduate level counselor trainees
• Be ok with being video recorded
• Not be involved in any legal proceedings or active legal cases/ concerns
